Anti-Surge Valve Optimisation

Summary

A major UK oil and gas operator required the tuning and optimisation of gas compressor anti-surge valves during a planned compressor outage.

We were engaged to provide engineering and commissioning expertise to commission, characterise, and dynamically tune several anti-surge control valves to ensure machine protection and optimise valve performance.

Our Scope

Develop procedures to specify the offline and dynamic steps required for accepting  and tuning anti-surge valve performance prior to compression restart.

Mobilise offshore and execute the tuning and optimisation of the valves and hand back to operations.

Produce a detailed report on valve performance, tuning activities completed, and recommendations for further improvement.

Result

All anti-surge valves were subjected to static and dynamic testing and subsequently tuned to demonstrate optimum machine protection and valve performance.

The valves were handed back to operations and immediately placed into service without disruption.
